Great time at the campround. Bathrooms were clean. It was a mile walk to the beach (not an easy one if you have kids and stuff). We were able to drive over with easy access to parking. There were food trucks on the beach and a small gift shop. The store in the campground was pricey (but expected). Staff was friendly.
Great campground.
Spacious campsites.
Expensive campstore with most emergency supplies. There is a dollar store off lake rd in town with everything, a rite aid & supermarket on same rd a bit further.
2 gas stations (bp had much better service) & a mcdonalds. The beaches & trails were amazing. Several hernandez food trucks but don't count on the hrs listed.. they all closed hrs before signs posted.
If you have small kids there is a playscape in the campground too.
I camped comfortably with a 3 yr old for a wk.
BRING DEEP WOODS OFF & stop itch cream...it was the only thing I found to stop the bites. Also, if you are sensitive to sound, bring earplugs, at night there is a ton of helicopter activity..you get used to it after a day.
Spectacular state park, best staff in the state hands down. The park is so well maintained kudos× 100. I've been to almost all are st. Parks this one is the best! Beautiful dunes beaches, and great rock hounding, trails 👌 👏 👍 …
It was like camping right in front of a police station. The DNR patrols this place like a nerdy hall monitor right after the bell rings. Their website was also down when we checked it to confirm the alcohol policy. They mentioned “No Alcohol” signs as you enter the campground, but we did not see any in the daylight. Again, nothing wrong with the campsite or the dunes, the DNR just literally thought they were in a Supertroopers movie.
There were also two people of color in our group, and we didn’t see the DNR go after the number of other groups drinking alcohol/having fun after bed time, but that’s another gripe with the DNR. Wonder where those guys were January 6th…
The campsite was great and there are some breweries very close, but if you plan on drinking alcohol or literally talking after 10pm, I would suggest the Indiana Dunes.
This is a very large campground consisting of two main loops. Be advised that most sites are dirt or sand and that there is only one dump station available. As with most state parks nowadays, expect to be surrounded by COVID campers whose children run rampant through your site and you will find headlights left on vehicles shining into your site.
This campground does have a large beautiful beach with plenty of ample parking, and a dog friendly beach which is equivalent to the pedestrian beach. There are great dune climbs and you can sand sled down some of the dunes. There is a strict no alcohol ban at this park, making it more family-friendly oriented.
Cute little campsite, bathrooms were also very clean and the water was actually really hot for the showers. Be careful with some of the actual sites though, we got flooded out due to a little bog area behind us and some heavy rain, other than that great experience!!
Everything about this place was epic even the raccoons. The staff was fenomenal in every way. Warning to anyone camping though make sure you do not leave any kind of food or trash outside and wipe up your eating areas very well and store food INSIDE your vehicle or RV because the raccoons are something else here. They're smart and plentiful. The sand on the beach was incredible, Definitely want Vaseline to help avoid wind burn if it's windy! The dunes were too fun for my kiddos and yes they loved running up and down then getting sand in every crevasse! 🤣 This place gave us amazing memories. 👏 We will be back!!!
Great campground. Fantastic location for visiting the dunes. Get reservations at least a month in advance. Water fill up and sewer dump on the way in and out. All sites have electricity but not water and sewer. Paved roads. Good spacing between sites.
